I was told by the headteacher when my daughter, age 6, was still in school that she needed resilience. I realised that the school's definition on resilience was not the same as mine! Young children being made to put up with stressful environments without appropriate support or skills is not resilience. I have watched her gradually developing her resilience in her own way now that she is unschooled; trying again when she looses at a computer game, going back to a home education activity after a child had upset her and continuing to practice on monkey bars even though she still falls at the first bar.
